A Small, Independent, Remote Team

Honest Ratings is run by a small, remote-first team spread across different time zones, funded entirely by affiliate commissions and advertising rather than outside investment. That keeps our incentives aligned with readers rather than with growth targets set by anyone else — but it also means we grow slowly and deliberately, and we don't maintain a large standing team.

How We Work

Because the team is remote and distributed, most collaboration happens asynchronously, in writing, with clear documentation, rather than in back-to-back meetings. Testers typically work independently on a product for the length of its testing period, log detailed notes, and coordinate with an editor before a review goes live. It's a working style suited to people who are comfortable managing their own time and communicating clearly in writing.

We'd rather leave this section honestly empty than list a placeholder job that doesn't really exist.

We keep these on file and reach out if a relevant opening comes up, though we can't guarantee a response to every submission given our small team size.

What We Generally Look For

Across the roles we've filled so far, the common thread has been genuine, demonstrable experience with consumer tech, not necessarily a degree or formal credential. For testing and writing roles, that might mean a history of detailed product reviews, technical hobbyist experience such as building keyboards or running audio comparisons, or professional experience in a relevant technical field. We value clear communication and intellectual honesty, someone who will say a product isn't good even when it would be easier not to, more than polish.

What It's Like Working Here

There's no office, no fixed hours beyond meeting deadlines, and no layer of management between a tester and the review they publish. That autonomy is the main appeal of working with a team this size, but it also means the role suits people who are self-directed rather than people who prefer a lot of structure handed to them. Because the whole team is small, everyone ends up seeing how the business actually runs — which reviews perform well with readers, what affiliate revenue actually funds, and where the gaps in our coverage are — rather than working in a narrow lane disconnected from the rest of the Site.
